Discover the Morvan
We often get the question: what is there to do at your place? You don’t come here for the beach life, for paragliding, for a wild pub crawl or for a club-visit late into the night. No, you come here for the idyllic landscape, for the peace and quiet and, above all, for nature…. We sum up for you how best to enjoy yourself here. Read along!

Cities and villages
Fun towns to visit are:
Luzy
Nice and close (15 min drive). There you have nice restaurants, a Lidl, a kind of Jumbo, the bakery, the butcher, the cinema, post office, a Gamma, etc.
Autun
With a population of 13,550, it is a fairly large place. It is known for its great cathedral, its arena and city walls from Roman times and its Friday market.
Nevers
A city of 32,000 people. This city is already fairly large. Therefore, you will find the larger stores (Ikea, Decathlon. etc. ) that you know from the Netherlands. The city has 12-century city walls and an ancient cathedral.
St. Honoraire Le Bain
- Casino: If the quiet gets too much for you, you can always get some extra adrenaline at the Casino in Saint-Honoraires-Les-Bains.
- Spa: In this village you will also find a beautiful spa. Note: A day of wellness in France is slightly different than in the Netherlands. Often it is in swimwear and you do a number of treatments. The accommodation, on the other hand, is wonderful. Find more information here.

Outdoor activities
Rafting
(1h15 drive)
Horseback riding
This can be done with your own horse ( boarding with us) or with a horse from an equestrian center (for example Morvan Rustique). There are equestrian trails with a length of some 250km.
Cycling
France is known for cycling! Who doesn’t know the Tour de France? On July 13, 2023, a stage of the Tour de France 2023 ended 30km from our house. What could be better than to take a day tour of 60, 80 km and then have a cup of coffee with a ”tarte aux pommes” or a ”plat de jour” in a village.
Mountain biking
Because of the many forests, there are also many mountain bike trails. These range from simple to heavy. In addition, of course, you can always plot your own route. We have three mountain bikes here that you may use.

Markets
Please note that at each market you must arrive on time, as most markets close as early as 1 p.m.
Luzy
Every Friday there is a small farmers’ market here. There will be about 12 stalls.
Beaune
Also every Friday, but just a little bigger. Fresh vegetables, fish, local products, wine, clothing, household products. See the location here.
Autun
Every Saturday in Autun you will find a large market with a burgundy combination of food and non-food products.
Chagny
There are about 200 stalls here every Sunday!
Vide Greniers & Vide Maisons
Classic French second-hand markets are held almost every day (from March to October) somewhere. Here you will find trinkets from traders and non-traders. The stuff from non-traders is especially interesting. We have an annual calendar where you can see where and on what date and where such an event will be held.
Outside
Lakes
Of course, you can always cool off in our own river.
Lac du Setton
That is a largest lake in the Morvan lake where you can swim, surf, bike, hike, windsurf, fish and lie in the sun. Located 1 hour and 10 minutes away.
Lac de Panneciere
A large lake for various water activities or hiking. 56-minute drive.
Lac Nocle-Maulaix
A lake 6km from our house. It is not a swimming lake, but you can fish or take a nice walk around it (5km).
Outside
Hiking
There are hundreds of hiking trails here. These range from very short to multi-day hikes. The views, the diversity of nature, the tranquility are simply beautiful and overwhelming. You feel alone in the world, so few people you meet. We bought several books of hiking trails that you are welcome to use.
Outside
Fish
For the fishermen among us, there are several options.
- Our backyard: you can catch a fish in our river
- In the two large lakes nearby, you will find large carp and roaches. See this website on Fishing in the Morvan – Grands Lacs du Morvan. Remember that you need a permit for this: Accueil – Cartedepeche.fr – Fédération Nationale de la Pêche en France

Vineyards
When you think of France , you think of wine. And vineyards abound here. Not right around the corner from us, you often have to drive an hour for it. Sancerre and several Burgundy wines are grown nearby.
If you drive across Paris to us, you will drive past the vineyards of Sancerre. If you drive over Beaune to us, you will drive through the vineyards of Burgundy. The vineyards of the Beaujolais wines are a 2.5-hour drive away.
We also regularly host wine tastings at our home. You can always ask!

Buddhist Temple
Just under 40 km away there is a Buddhist temple, very impressive and inspiring. Almost all of our guests come back lyrical from this. Find more information here.
