Highlights of our first summer in the Morvan

As the leaves begin to fall and the days grow shorter, I think back to the first summer we experienced in the Morvan. And this one was with one word: great! Many people visited, the camper spot was put into use and the first paying guests (after all, the chimney has to keep smoking!) were satisfied. Everyone who stayed here had three words in common: tranquility, nature and idyllic.

In brief, a review of the highlights:

  • During the week of Ascension we had the first guests in the Gite and at the same time Remco and Renée in our house. The joint bbq was very enjoyable!
  • In late June there were the first camper guests
  • In July, the number of beds in the gite expanded from 2 to 4. That was another delightful job…the new second person bed had to go through the window again, of course.
  • In July we had the first camping guests namely Donn and his friends. Carolien was also there for a workcation. Very cozy and the bbq burned for a long time.
  • At the end of July we had the first family in the cottage
  • In early August, Luzy (8km from Avrée) hosted the ”Fete de l’accordéon” for the 45th time. Three days of plenty of music, dancing and necessary digestion for young and old. I feasted my eyes. At the same time, Donn, Anouk, Cherella and Renée were also here.
  • In September, the first cyclists visited.
  • The RV spot was used by friends of ours in June and by Joop’s parents in September. Together with Koos, we built a handmade scaffolding. All this for two new “laternes” on top of the chimney.

Now preparing for winter...

All in all, it was a beautiful, very warm summer. Many people visited us, sunshine, surroundings, nature, food and drinks were enjoyed. We have also been preparing for the coming winter. We have about 6 cubic meters of wood ready to go (including 2 cubic meters from our own garden!), we have installed a soapstone stove, and the piping of the Rayburn wood stove is connected. In addition, Joop installed two new ”Laternes” on the clean stone. There is plenty of work here and we are not going to get bored. Now, among other things, we are renovating the toilet/bathroom in the cottage. So for now, we are having fun!

Salut!
