Wat vliegt de tijd. Op 6 december werd het nieuwe dak over de oude geplaatst…

The big move to France
In May 2022, we officially moved, finally! So we can really start enjoying our new place in the summer months, and even welcome the first guests already. We did the move in four steps. Each step meant a ride in a truck full of household goods.
So much stuff, what do we do with it?
We had to start dividing our household goods between the houses in France and Emmen. France will be our home location and therefore most of the household goods went there. The rest was divided between our new place in Emmen, the thrift store, family, friends and the last leftover went to the environmental waste depot. What a chore that was! What a mess, sorry, beautiful stuff, was collected over time. We all know it…just put it in the basement and we’ll clean that up later…so that was never going to happen again.
Up and down to Avrée
The first time we drove to France on December 6, you can read about it in our first blog. Five people then packed up a lot of stuff and put it in the truck. The second time was on Feb. 13 and then two more times in April. And still not everything is in Avrée. In July and August we also go up and down and then a trailer with stuff is hitched to the car.
By trial and error
And did everything go well? Well, it was trial and error: for example, our bed had to go through the window, placing the wood stove/oven (out of the van, moving it inside and putting the stove/oven in place) took four hours.
The battery of the riding lawn mower lasted three hours. Then I was allowed to cut the grass with scissors. And then try to get by with your best French at a company that sells riding lawn mowers. A real challenge! In April we started mowing the grass as well. Because we had not mowed all spring, the grass was about 1.5 meters high. After getting a new battery in the mower, we patiently cut the grass. While mowing we also came across the above tree belonging to Ed and Willem. Still nice these neighbors.
We did it, we're over!
The mill and our office are now being used as temporary storage. But we did it, we’re over! These are just small obstacles in realizing our big dream.
Everything is now where it should be. How busy we have been and how hard we have worked. But it paid off. We are happy and joyful.
